Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) are a hot research topic for 6G, the next generation of wireless communication. Previous wireless communication schemes have treated the radio channel itself as inalterable, and designed the transmission scheme accordingly. However, if Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces based on man-made structures can manipulate phase, amplitude, and polarization, previously unattainable coverage, spectral and power efficiency, and reduced propagation are all possible. This video introduces the topic and the test requirements.
