Vector signal generator with frequency options up to 56 GHz and 67 GHz
R&S®SMW200A vector signal generator
The R&S®SMW200A is the vector signal generator for the most demanding applications. As a result of its flexibility, performance and intuitive operation, it is a perfect tool for generating complex, digitally modulated signals of high quality.
Covering frequencies up to 67 GHz, the R&S®SMW200A is the ideal generator for digitally modulated signals required for early research on 6G components and systems, development of wideband communication systems in general, the physical layer verification of 4G and 5G bases stations, chipsets and devices. Of course, the R&S®SMW200A is also the signal source of choice in many applications in the aerospace and defense sector.
Use Case #1: Signal generation for the extended FR2 frequency range and new 5G NR release 17 features
With 5G NR Release 17, some key parameters of the physical layer change. For example with the new subcarrier spacings of 480 kHz and 960 kHz, the possible channel bandwidth increases up to 2 GHz. In addition, the FR2 frequency range is extended beyond the 52.6 GHz specified for Release 16.
All these extensions are fully supported by the R&S®SMW200A. Watch this demo to discover 5G NR Release 17 compliant signal generation. The video highlights the pre-launch of the new 67 GHz frequency option for the R&S®SMW200A.
Use Case #2: Signal generation for fixed-satellite applications and inter-satellite links
Fixed-satellite applications make use of space-to-earth and earth-to-space links in the frequency range between 37.5 GHz and 51.4 GHz in the Q/V-band.
In addition inter-satellite links make use of frequencies up to 66 GHz with a bandwidth of up to 2 GHz which are supported by the R&S®SMW200A. This makes the new 67 GHz frequency option for the R&S®SMW200A ideal for satellite applications.
Use Case #3: 5G NR – 47 GHz band supported
In March 2020, the US regulator, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), announced the conclusion of an auction which made spectrum available in the 47 GHz frequency band (licensed as ten 100 MHz blocks in the range from 47.2 – 48.2 GHz).
The new frequency band challenges the development and design of RF components, such as power amplifiers.
Rohde & Schwarz closes this gap with the introduction of the new 56 and 67 GHz frequency options for the R&S®SMW200A.
Use the outstanding signal quality of the R&S®SMW200A in combination with the high-end signal and spectrum analyzer R&S®FSW to test the RF performance of your designs such as spectrum emission mask, ACLR or EVM.
Use Case #4: IEEE 802.11ad
The R&S®SMW200A vector signal generator supporting the frequency range up to 67 GHz is excellently suited for WLAN IEEE 802.11ad testing.
The 2 GHz IQ modulation bandwidth, the flat frequency response and the internal baseband option for WLAN IEEE 802.11ad allows to generate high-quality test signals in the designated frequency range from 57.32 GHz to 65.80 GHz, compact out of a single instrument.
Use Case #5: Sivers Semiconductors and Rohde & Schwarz collaborate on testing WLAN 11ad and 5G RF transceivers up to 71 GHz
To overcome the challenges of OTA testing related to the extended mmWave frequency ranges and to evaluate the performance of the latest generation of RF transceiver chipsets, Rohde & Schwarz and Sivers Semiconductors jointly tested RF transceivers for WLAN and 5G NR up to 71 GHz..
