Open RAN (O-RAN) is a new telecommunications approach that advocates for virtualization, cloud-native architectures, open interfaces and the disaggregation of hardware and software components.
Disaggregation is the splitting of traditional baseband unit functions into centralized units (CUs) and distributed units (DUs). This allows network operators to place network functions in different units along the signal path to optimize performance. The O-RAN split-RAN concept offers eight functional split options so that different parts of the protocol stack process on separate units.
Our exclusive poster is the perfect way to get an overview of the O-RAN disaggregated RAN architecture, the various lower layer split (LLS) options and the O-RAN fronthaul interface.
