EMC test solutions to cover article 3.1(b) of the RED
Article 3.1(b) of the RED 2014/53/EU states that all radio equipment shall be constructed so as to ensure an adequate level of electromagnetic compatibility as set out in the EMC directive 2014/30/EU. The applicable harmonized standards are listed in the Official Journal of the EU.
The EMC directive basically includes a range of emission and immunity tests for radio equipment. The harmonized standard EN 301 489-x, for example, is a series of standards that cover various wireless transmitter applications. For combined equipment, the EMC test requirement increases with the RED. The new harmonized standards EN 303 446-1/-2 cover combined equipment consisting of at least two or more products where at least one of which is radio communication or radio determination equipment and at least one of which is non-radio equipment. The test requirement includes a typical use case scenario with both non-radio and radio functions operating at the same time.
